The Best of New York Fashion Week 2015

New York Fashion Week, one of four major fashion weeks in the world alongside Paris, London and Milan, has evolved a particular voice of its own with the Fall 2015 season offering a riot of sophistication and glamour. It was the ending of an era for the show, the last season to be held at the Lincoln Center which has served as the venue of New York Fashion Week for the last five years. If anything could sum up the season it was the diversity of looks on offer. From sleek and sophisticated, through to a host of 70’s inspired looks, to high tech futuristic ensembles, designers presented independent views that defied an easy summary. Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler presented a powerful and contemporary vision, inspired by abstract expressionism in mid-century New York. Textiles resembling marled tweeds were composed of multiple layers of chiffon, bonded with stitches. An architectural but also body-con sensibility was evident in arresting bandage dresses in a notable show standout.

Marc Jacobs

An assured collection praised as one of the designer’s finest of recent seasons. Eschewing bohemian and 1970’s trends that were a pronounced flavour of the season, Marc Jacobs collection was unabashedly glamorous with a melancholy gothic edge that gave the collection a provocative undertone. Dresses were rendered sheer and short, while metallic brocades and leopard print, mink, studded silk and embroidery added detail and weight to a collection.
