A Symphony of Persistent Formalwear with a Dash of Sports at Dior Homme



We take a look at the Dior Homme runway show at Paris fashion week, first see behind the scenes as the models go through preparation in hair and make up, before the show itself which featured a live string orchestra centered in line in the middle of the catwalk.

Designer Kris Van Assche maintained the brand’s sharp tailoring tradition with a collection of formal sportswear or sporting formalwear depending on how you took it.

The formality of smart tuxedos and dinner jackets was broken down, accessorized with caps, medals and badges, but bow ties and neckties still remained intact. A closer inspection of the pin buttons on the lapels revealed dried pressed flowers inside, an alternate take on the traditional pocket flower or corsage. There were leather drawstring track pants and dark indigo denim as well as multi pocketed parka jackets and duffle coats all adding dashes of laid back attitude.

A striking black, yellow and white print fabric injected a shock of color, as did the flashes of neon rubber soles of the footwear. Tailcoats and long overcoats maintained a smart masculinity even when paired with jeans, and a shirt and tie beneath a rigid denim shirt jacket refused to let the orderly appearance ever quite dip to casual wear.
