Reinventing Rock

There are few trends that are able to reinvent themselves and rejuvenate brands like the rock trend. Jean-Philippe Evrard, president and creative director of Martine Leherpeur Conseil Office takes FashionOne viewers through the seven types of rock trends from the runways in 2014.

'Romantic rock' is characterised by designer labels such as Anna Sui, Gucci and Gerard Darel. "'Glamour rock' is Yves Saint Laurent," says Evrard. "We work on a range of colors revolving around fuchsia, very sensual tones that can be associated with black, and then gold of course,” he adds. British rock glamour has a more punk vibe to it.

‘Vintage rock’ is associated with 90s grunge, and gives a more casual feel. 'Neo-gothic rock' can be seen in the designs of Rick Owens and Barbara Bui. 'Alternative rock' has a more kawaii (cute) aspect to it as it comes from Japan. It is still a rock style, but with a fun side to it.

'Sport rock' can be seen in the work by designers Alexander Wang and Anthony Vaccarello. The 'bourgeoise rock' trend is a rock that is very couture, according to Evrard, "where you can play with zones of seduction." Lanvin and Balmain are powerhouses in this area.
