Olsens Twins New Venture & Tom Ford at the amfAR Inspiration Gala

American actresses and fashion designers Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen with MySpace founder Josh Berman, have launched a new site fusing e-commerce and social media called StyleMint. StyleMint will offer consumers a personalized shopping experience, where users complete quizzes to unlock style feedback and item recommendations. The Olsen twins, in addition to acting as the public face of the site in videos and photo shoots, will design items beginning with a collection of women's fashion T-shirts, retailing for $29.99.

Tom Ford Honored
Iconic American fashion designer Tom Ford, renowned for his sexy, lithe designs, has been presented the Award of Inspiration at the amfAR’s annual Inspiration Gala, a celebration of men’s style. The amfAR; The Foundation for AIDS Research, is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment and education. Presented the award by pop star Rihanna, and toasted by amfAR chairman Kenneth Cole and global fundraising chairman actress Sharon Stone, the award recognized Tom Ford’s important contribution to menswear aesthetics, but more importantly his unwavering commitment to combating the scourge of AIDS.

Ralph Lauren Profits
High end apparel company Ralph Lauren has closed its second quarter, reporting sales amounting to $2 billion, a higher profitability than $1.87 billion in the same period a year ago but falling below analysts estimates of $2.02 billion. Speaking about the results, Ralph Lauren stressed that a number of strategic goals had been achieved in the year, including the launch of Polo for women, an opening of the first Polo store on the prestigious Fifth Avenue in NYC, and the creation of the brand’s first dual gender flagship in mainland China, he added that those investments would create significant value for shareholders in the medium and long term.
