Lupita Nyong’o the Face of Lancôme
Lupita Nyong’o is set to become the new face of French perfume and cosmetics house Lancôme. The 31-year-old Academy Award winning actress, whose breakthrough performance in 12 Years a Slave catapulted her into Hollywood’s elite has quickly become one of the darlings of the fashion world, recently appearing in Miu Miu’s 2014 Spring/Summer campaign. Nyong’o is the fourth Academy Award-winning actress to work with Lancôme, joining the likes of Kate Winslet, Julia Roberts and Penelope Cruz. She breaks new ground, however, as the brand’s first ever black ambassador.
Prada Slowdown
Italian fashion house Prada has seen the cooling of the luxury goods market in both emerging and established territories, most notably in its two top markets, China and Europe, cause a slowdown in its profits for 2013. In response to this, Prada has announced its strategic guidelines for the future which will include an increase in men’s stores with plans to open 50 more locations, alongside a bold industrial expansion, with the building of new plants designed to increase the brand’s manufacturing and production capacity.
Dolce & Gabbana Lambast Victoria Beckham
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the designers of Italian luxury brand Dolce and Gabbana have criticized Victoria Beckham’s fashion output at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s “The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014” exhibition. The famous celebrity and former popstar recently was crowned Designer of the Year at the prestigious British Fashion Awards. Despite this, the pair characterized her work as belonging to the tradition of “professional” designers, more akin to high street labels like Zara and H&M than a true fashion house.
