A Garden of Sartorial Delight at Mulberry Spring/Summer 2015

Mulberry took inspiration for its 2015 Spring/Summer collection from all things horticultural, creating a veritable garden of sartorial delight in its London Fashion Week showroom. A spokesperson for the brand explains that: “The Spring/Summer 2015 collection was inspired by the sheer joy of an English country garden on a summer’s day.”

Getting back to their roots as a British lifestyle brand, Mulberry’s designers took to the great British outdoors armed with sketchpads, later imputing their sketches as patterns for the Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Mulberry cited gardens such as Kew, Great Dixter and Sissinghurst as the vision behind their designs, and though an eclectic mix of both wild and garden flowers were used, the pick of the bunch were countryside staples delphinium, cornflower, and cow parsley.

The directness of the transition from sketchpad to garment is evident in the confident, intricate designs which characterize this year’s collection. Pieces included floaty, powder-blue dresses and kimono overlaid with precisely rendered floral print, and a more structured monochrome hexagon print dress, smattered with red and white flora. Sequins were used to replicate diminutive cow parsley petals, in an attention to detail evident throughout the collection.

Of course with Mulberry, one can never overlook the accessories. Famous worldwide for their exquisite leather bags, with each new wardrobe season, Mulberry creates an accompanying, show-stopping bag. This year saw a focus on the clutch, which was created in both floral and plain, block color: white and black with green.
