Luxury Minimalism at Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2015
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is an integral part of New York Fashion Week and a must-attend for the biggest players in the fashion industry. In addition to launching the hottest new talent, the event showcases collections from industry giants, and they don’t come much bigger than Calvin Klein. One of the world’s leaders in fashion and design, the Calvin Klein brand has long been a byword for industry-leading excellence.
Francisco Costa, Women’s Creative Director for Calvin Klein and formerly known for work with the likes of Gucci and Balmain Couture, brought a luxuriant yet minimalist approach to the Spring 2015 collection. Monochromatic single pieces featured in an ensemble drawing from a palette of darkest blues, black, cream and maroon. Costa mixed sheer fabrics with patent leather, creating an interplay between textures and opacities. Simple, linear structures inspired by typically male silhouettes also featured heavily.
Models wore shoes of a uniform design, which bore further testament to the minimalist restraint exercised by Costa. Patent black open-toed platforms set off each outfit, providing a more feminine counterbalance to largely unadorned apparel.
Unsurprisingly, Calvin Klein’s collection drew in superstar guests. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker took front row seats; Sarah Jessica Parker told fans on the Twittersphere that her own outfit—an eye-catching cobalt Macintosh—was itself a Calvin Klein creation.
