A Love Letter to her Fans: Stella McCartney Paris Womens Autumn/Winter 2014-15




Stella McCartney is a name that even the man on the street will recognize. This is neither accident nor inherited fame: she has built up a impressive catalog of fashion over the years, and her Autumn/Winter 2014-15 collection is part medley, part service for her supporters. According to the designer herself, this collection represents a process of “giving ownership” to the women who wear her, and has “a little piece of them all in it.”

The mesh of themes—of relaxed and flowing shapes, of typically masculine colors such as burgundy and deep greens, and of the splash of whimsy in the squiggly lines taken from industrial-strength cord—all comes together under a sense of practicality, underlined by the consciously eco-friendly wooden platform brogues, and further nodding to the familiars of the season’s tastes with oversized coats and a mix of sporty and evening wear.

Silks, satins and tassel details are teased out without appearing too fussy, and golden zips shimmer on a number of pieces to contrast with the earthy palette. Luxe knits and more restrained pieces also appear—so if the collection seems to be an eclectic mix, then that is precisely the point. It is a love letter to the endless variations and dimensions of the women who love to wear Stella McCartney.
