Behind the Scenes at Topman London Mens Spring Summer 2015
British high street menswear brand Topman sent its latest collection down the runway in London during the London Collections menswear shows. Fashion One correspondent Stefanie Rycraft Jones was there to take us behind the scenes.
Head hairstylist Matt Mulhall described the hair for the show as “’70s inspired, but in a ’90s way.” Long locks, middle partings and bowl cuts were inspired by the Manchester clubbers of the late ’80s and early ’90s.
Head makeup artist Petros Petrochinas explained the minimal look for the show: “We’ve used no foundation at all,” he said. A rich moisturizer paired with darkened eyebrows and slight around-the-eye accents, as well as some light contouring, give the impression of having been out partying late into the night, and of having gone straight to work the next morning. “This look takes just ten minutes to do,” he added.
TV presenter Nick Grimshaw revealed himself to be a big fan of the brand, saying, “They just do good clothes. They always get it right, and they’ve got it right for years.” Popular British model Jourdan Dunn, who often models for Topshop (the counterpart of Topman that caters exclusively to women’s clothing), was on hand with advice for the male models as she attended the show. “If you don’t have cheekbones, suck your cheeks in, and have confidence—swag it out!”
Floral prints and pastel colors such as pale pinks, powder blues and mint greens are set to continue being popular well into next year—and don’t be afraid of injecting some color into your wardrobe. Prepare to channel your inner hippie as ’70s shapes make a comeback—with all the flower-power prints and double denim that implies.
