PIRELLI CALENDAR Photo shoots with Photographer Mario Sorrenti 2012

The Pirelli Calendar 2012 features some of the biggest models in the world, like Lara Stone, Kate Moss, Mila Jovovich, Rinko Kikuchi, Saskia de Brauw, Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Joan Smalls, Guinevere van Seenus, Malgosia Bela, Edita Vilkevicute and Margareth Made in different stages of undress.

The island of Corsica is the plush location for the 2012 Pirelli Calendar photoshoot where Italian photographer Mario Sorrenti shoots a bevy of models in their most natural form amidst rocks, boulders, woods, and water. The result is 25 shots (7 in color!) of 9 models and 3 actresses. Milla Jovovich and Kate Moss seem to have an easy time--they've known Sorrenti for years. Actresses Margaret Made and Rinko Kikuchi seem to feel comfortable, although they are more known for being in films not being models. Runway favorites like Joan Smalls, Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, and Saskia de Brauw says they like feeling powerful under Sorrenti's watchful eye. Lara Stone, Malgosia Bela, and and Edita Vilkeviciute make the whole thing look effortless.

Sorrenti told critics that "natural feminine beauty" was the theme of the calendar, and that is easily seen in the simple, stunning shots. "You know, originally I thought I was going to do very sexy pictures, and when we got there I realized that I didn't want the pictures to be sexy at all . . . I didn't want them to be posing and arching and like sticking their boobs in my face or anything like that."

Thus, he added: "We tried to keep it very simple, there were times where we did just photographs with the model and me and there was no one around. I think that was the moment when I was able to capture some of the most beautiful photographs . . . You kind of lose yourself and you go with the flow of the moment and just let things happen." Of including former girlfriend Moss, Sorrenti said: "Kate, I've known for 20 years. I can't do this without her." And Stone said of participating: "In the end you get that one shot, that magical decisive moment. It's not sexy in-your-face, it's more innocent sexy. Don't know why they hired me!" However, she added of the calendar: "I'd like to do it every year till I'm 75."
